Let’s be frank, there is a vast array of trading texts available, many of them are mostly rubbish with a few gems buried under a mountain of filler text!.

On this page we share the texts that The Daily Trading Report has found most useful and well worn copies are always found beside our trading stations. Some are not easy to read but the wisdom contained within is undeniable. In fact we decided to put this page on the site when we realised that each of us had our own copy of these texts. Some quote from Monty Python, we quote from John Murphy’s “Intermarket Analysis”.

Intermarket Analysis

THE reference for analyzing the relationships between the bonds, currencies, stocks, commodities and the ongoing business cycles.

The goto text to help determine whether the relationships are normal, or is something interesting happening.

Market Wizards

Interviews with some of the most successful traders of all time.

What separates these traders from the herd? Many of those interviews provide contrasting advice and techniques, and yet their success remains constant.

Having this by your side and reviewed constantly will help you to keep their key tenants in mind; capital preservation, risk management, individual responsibility, flexibility, and discipline.

The Bible of Options Strategies

Not a book to read from cover to cover, but an essential trading reference. Its very well organised. Showing the various steps required to execute income, vertical, volatility, sideways, leveraged, and synthetic strategies. The risk & return profiles are clearly highlighted.

When we are sure about which strategy to pursue, we find ourselves reviewing this text more than others to help with execution.

The Options Playbook

A less complex version of the Bible of Options Strategies.

The Options Playbook also features a Rookie’s Corner, which addresses common mistakes made by beginning options traders and suggests strategies to on how to get your feet wet. There are also sections on implied volatility (explaining how it can be predictive of the future price movement of the underlying equity), basic option terms described in easy-to-understand language, a description of how time decay and a change in implied volatility will affect the trade after it s in place, and a basic description of the Greeks and how they measure certain variables that affect options pricing.

The Art of Contrary Thinking

“When everybody thinks alike, Everyone is likely to be wrong.”

First published in 1932, it remains just as relevant today. Your trading success will largely be due to your ability to review information and make your own decisions and forecasts.

This text provides a clear framework to help you assesses what the “popular” opinion is, how to teach yourself not to get caught up in the herd, and to think independently.

The Winning Investment Habits of Warren Buffet and George Soros

Both investment giants. Both started with nothing and created significant fortunes. Both having totally different strategies to achieve their aims.

There are many texts that attempt to “discover the secrets” these two might have. You won’t find that here. Just a rational analysis of their investing approach. Any one serious about investing should have a copy of this text and read it regularly.
